Getting your first tattoo is a decision most people ponder on. The best answer is; something about you as a person. Tattoos are representations of something important in your life.

Many military personnel will get tattoos representing the branch of service they are in or their unit number or nickname. This is a sign of pride and bravery for many. A sign of love can be the name of your mate, the dates of your children’s births, a tattoo representing a loved one who has passed and even a characture of someone special in your life.

When tattoos started, they were used to demonstrate an organization of people that a particular person belonged to. Tattoos were used to prove bravery as well as pride. At the present time, people are creating their own for an “exclusive” interpretation of their pride, love and bravery as well.

When you want to get a tattoo, before getting one, you must choose the tattoo design first. This doesn’t mean you must have a particular design selected but at least an idea of what you want in its design. Like the saying goes, “lovers may come and go but a tattoo is forever!” This saying might be no longer be true today as it was once with the growing popularity of laser surgery, nevertheless tattoos are meant to be everlasting.

Before deciding what to get, think about the important things in your life and how you represent them. Beginning with a small tattoo is always a good idea because if you don’t like what you get, it can always be covered up by another larger one.

Ask a tattoo artist. They can assist you on what to select and where to go. Since tattoo artists do this for a living, they mainly know what they’re doing with permanent designs.

Tattoos such as cartoon characters, movie characters, themed tattoos and tribal tattoos should only be considered for the serious. These are time consuming and expensive. Your tattoo should be something that represents you as a person, your likes, or your life in general.

In getting your first tattoo, there is no right or wrong about it but your must remind yourself that each tattoo says a story about an event in your life that is significant to you.
