Hygiene

You need to ensure that your tattoo creation area is well provided with necessary hygiene maintaining equipment like an autoclave, containers to store infected waste and already used needles. As per certain legal frameworks in some countries, you have to ensure a sterile and hygienic functional area through regular swabbing with hot and cold water that needs to be provided near the tattoo creation space. You need to ensure that the tattoo designer getting the customer set for the tattooing procedure does not touch him with naked hands and always dons gloves which should be dumped right away once the procedure is complete.

Certain rules to be followed

Tattooing can be performed on children only with the go-ahead from their parents and usually women expecting a child, those who are intoxicated, those addicted to drugs, those experiencing skin ailments and mentally handicapped individuals are not favored with the art of tattooing.

Without the client’s go-ahead about confirming the exact tattoo spot, the tattoo performer does not commence his work for which he needs to make sure that he is always using disinfectants, disposable needles and gloves to prevent any chances of contamination. All waste matter needs to be autoclaved and those like hard furniture, machines need to be wiped very neatly with a lot of antiseptic solution.

A tattooist can keep himself abreast of the latest developments in his field by taking membership in bodies that promote this art and it is a sad fact that most famous tattoo artists are not from any association. In some states, a tattooist can start once he gets his license by passing a written test on maintaining hygiene and wellbeing, while in other states they demand that he undergoes guidance in handling blood borne and body fluid contagions.

Aftercare

Subjecting the new tattoo creation to any water at home or at a pool during the first 15 days can cause the ink to wash away besides opening up the risk of contamination and over hydration from the bacteria and chlorine present in the pool.

Some tattoo artists also suggest keeping the tattoo covered for the initial 24 hours, while there are some others who recommend getting rid of the bandage within a couple of hours.
