Since ancient times, many civilizations have used tattooing as a way to express culture and individuality. It is only the past few decades, however, that American culture has embraced this art form. As recently as the 1980’s, tattoos were seen by mainstream America as an act of rebellion, especially for females. But in the past ten years or so, tattoos have become so common that many tattoo ideas for girls are overdone to the point of being cliched.
